Yellow Sunflower Editorial

December 2, 2019

One of my favorite things to do is plan a shoot that pushes me technically and creatively. I had never shot on location at night with off camera flash so I thought I’d give it a go! The most amazing team help me put this together. Jill Marie did this gorgeous makeup, that slight yellow eyeliner on the bottom was perfection. Cassi Bosch did the hair and stayed the entire shoot to assist and change the hair halfway through. And last but definitely not least, Tiffany Pliler modeled beautifully. She is such a gem of a model, I’m grateful to call her a friend <3

The past few years, every fall I’ve seen these sunflowers grow off the side of the freeway. I always wanted to do a shoot there and just never really went for it and planned it. This was the year I finally did it! Keeping everything in the same colored family is something I’m drawn too. I didn’t have to think much about the fact that I wanted everything to be yellow. I rented the lights from Pictureline in Salt Lake City, they are THEE best light rental in Utah hands down. Always rent from them, they’re reliable and so nice.

Lighting Setup

You can see my lighting set up in the first image. I rented the Profoto B10’s. They’re the perfect lights for this shoot because they take batteries (great for on location) and since I only had one subject I didn’t need a ton of light. The kit comes with two lights, but I decided to just use one. I had the light on the left of me, and then my cutie out of this world kind husband held a reflector to my right. On the key light I used the Profoto OCF Beauty Dish to soften the light.
